NYC and Company suggests exploring the municipality's different boroughs taking in sights and sounds around the area.
"With all of its iconic, romantic spots, New York City's five boroughs deliver the best Valentine's Day experience for both singles and couples alike," explained George Fertitta, chief executive officer of the organisation.
Staten Island Zoo might prove popular among animal lovers and Sweetheart Day, where visitors can buy two-for-one tickets on February 13th for outings on that date.
A meal for two might be one of the most traditional nights out for celebrations, so the Hilton Garden Inn or Lorenzo's Italian restaurant could hold appeal for those staying in Staten Island, while accommodation and special deals for Valentine's Day are also available.
However, those hoping to take part in something unusual for a date to remember might prefer heading to Wave Hill in the Bronx, where a cooking demonstration has been arranged for Saturday February 12th in the afternoon.
Holiday insurance policyholders probably won't want to miss the sights of Manhattan and Brooklyn. The former is home to Lily O'Brien's Chocolate Cafe where a four-foot high fountain is in residence - the cocoa will flow bright red on February 14th in recognition of Valentine's Day.
Anyone arriving in the US prior to the big event might want to make time for Love NYC Restaurant Week, which runs until February 6th and dinner is available at a number of venues for $35 (£22).
