A new low-cost route to Madeira from Manchester has launched this week, making the Portuguese destination more accessible to Britons.
Holidaymakers planning a trip to Madeira can now benefit from more flights to the Portuguese island.
Jet2.com has launched the first low-cost air route to the destination from Manchester Airport this week, with flights starting from £69.99 including taxes.
Flights to Madeira from London, Bristol and Edinburgh are already available to Britons.
Miguel Perestrello of the Portuguese National Tourist Office called Madeira a "fantastic" holiday hotspot and added: "We are delighted that the new flight route from Manchester will make the destination even more easily accessible for British customers based in the north-west."
Britons booking flights and
holiday insurance for a trip to Madeira can take in activities such as fishing, surfing, diving and dolphin and whale-spotting.
While the island is Portuguese, it lies closer to Africa than it does to mainland Europe.
The Madeira archipelago was discovered by the Portuguese in 1418 and consists of Madeira, Porto Santo, Selvagens and Desertas.
