British Airways will now fly twice each week to the destination.
Arranging flights to Puerto Rico should be easier than ever thanks to new stopovers from British Airways (BA).
The carrier now schedules aircraft to the destination twice each week, which could mean more tourists book their next holiday to the Caribbean island. BA has announced that this addition to its roster brings the number of flights to the Central American region to 64 - these layovers service 15 locations in the area.
Angie Sloan, spokeswoman for the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, explained how the flights will boost the economy of the nation, as well as provide more opportunities for people to visit and enjoy what is on offer.
"[Puerto Rico] is renowned for its 212 miles of beaches, world-class shopping, slick casinos, exciting water sports and salsa clubs, as well as mouth-watering criolla gastronomy," she said.
Numerous hotels have also opened and Ms Sloan particularly recommended the W Retreat & Spa on Vieques Island and the St Regis Beach Resort, which was unveiled just this month. The former would be a great spot to sip a pina colada cocktail or sample local cuisine in stunning surroundings, as well as offering a spot for single trip insurance customers to relax.
Travellers searching for adventure could do well to schedule a trip to the Espiritu Santo River State Preserve where rainforest landscape gives way to the city of San Juan. Its walls and fortresses hark back to its days in Caribbean history but more recent additions may interest those in search of great shops, duty-free outlets and the hub for many cruise liners, according to the expert.
