Incurring a ski injury while intoxicated could invalidate your winter sports insurance, it has been warned.
Britons heading to ski resorts this winter have been urged to refrain from taking to the slopes after having a few drinks.
The traditional apres-ski, where skiers eat, drink and are merry after a stint on the snow, has always been popular on winter sports holidays.
However, donning skis again after having several alcoholic drinks can mean that
ski insurance providers will not pay up if the holidaymaker has an accident and needs medical treatment.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Julie Fromont, travel manager at Aviva, said the company checks certain cases of ski injury by asking the doctor involved whether the patient seemed to have been drinking when they were hurt.
"If the emergency services or police were involved, they would normally report any involvement of intoxication by drink or drugs and this would be on the medical records," she explained.
She added that skiers should make sure they stay safe on the slopes by only drinking after they have finished for the day.
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office recently launched a campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of mixing alcohol and winter sports among those heading abroad on skiing holidays.
