National Trails are English walking 'benchmarks'

Routes are chosen to take in the best of the country for those who like to walk.

Rambling and walking in the UK could be popular this year, with many people across the country turning their eye to holidays in the UK instead of heading overseas, and looking for a holiday which will allow them a bit of adventure.

And in the opinion of one expert, the best way to enjoy Britain if you do decide to holiday at home is to take up a walking break, particularly those which are classified as National Trails.

According to Lyndon Marquis, a Natural England spokesperson, the trails which are run by his company offer the best options for things to do in the UK, giving people the chance to take in more of the country through carefully selected routes.

"They offer superb access to our finest landscapes, visiting places of interest and calling in at villages along the way for refreshments and accommodation. Each is well maintained and way-marked and provides a wealth of information on the route and the surrounding area."

He also said that because there are a greater number of people likely to be looking at walking holidays for the first time this year, there are a number of trails which offer easy, introductory one day walks.

Natural England offers 13 different trails around the UK, each of which offers something different. However, Mr Marquis said that those who are embarking on their first time seriously walking should try Peddars Way and North Norfolk Coast Path, Yorkshire Wolds Way and Thames Path as good introductions to the pastime.

Des De Moor, the Ramblers' senior everyday walking officer, recently advised those who are looking to go on a walking holiday with their travel insurance to make sure that they are taking precautions, such as carrying a map and warm clothing at all times.ADNFCR-2301-ID-801264282-ADNFCR
