Namibia has beautiful untouched landscapes, according to the country's tourism board.
Travel insurance customers may want to consider a trip to Namibia in 2012, with one industry commentator claiming it has what it takes to compete with bigger African nations.
Ndapona Schleberger, international operations and marketing manager at the Namibia Tourism Board, said the country has becoming increasingly popular in recent times.
She said: "2011 has been a good year. Tourism in Namibia is growing - it's going from strength to strength."
According to Ms Schleberger, there are a number of emerging markets that are showing interest in the country, including Russia and Italy.
Namibia will also be open to the Arabian market from next year, she claimed, with Dubai being opened up in February.
There are also plans to boost relations with North America, the expert added, with Namibia's tourism minister visiting the US in 2012.
The benefits of Namibia over other African countries include its unspoiled landscape, she explained, with the population of the nation only in the region of two million people.
"We see ourselves as competing against those big giants and we are doing very well for such a small country," Ms Schleberger stated.
Namibia is unique, she concluded, so it does not face any challenges when trying to compete with its larger neighbours.
Those hoping to explore Asia on their holidays may instead wish to visit Myanmar, formerly known as Burma.
Lonely Planet's Tom Hall said the country does not attract the same numbers as places such as Cambodia and Thailand, meaning it could provide a nice location for a quiet break.
