Britons travelling to Munich this year can attend the celebrations of the 125th anniversary of King Ludwig II.
A number of events are being held in Munich this summer in order to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the monarch King Ludwig II.
Anna Kleeblatt, a spokeswoman at the Bavarian State Opera, stated the organisation will be putting on special guided tours in order to mark the occasion.
This is because King Ludwig II was a particular fan of the opera and was a close friend of Richard Wagner, who was the composer at the time of his reign.
Private shows were often held by the monarch, who would book the entire venue and fill it with 2,000 soldiers.
"They had to sit there for five hours during this whole private opera show only for the king. There are some really crazy stories about Ludwig II," said Ms Kleeblatt.
One of the destinations in Munich she recommended as being worth a visit for British tourists was Neuschwanstein Castle, another of the city's locations to have links to King Ludwig II.
"You can visit it and we do concerts and dinners there. It's very beautiful, there's a fantastic park around and it's a very nice place," she commented.
Earlier this year, Klaus Lohmann, UK and Ireland director at the German National Tourist Office, named the European country as a rising star and said it offers the best value for money he can think of.
Munich was one of the cities he told people to visit during their time in the nation, as well as Berlin and Frankfurt, as well as Hamburg.
