New research suggests that Morocco is the cheapest short to medium-haul holiday destination to visit from the UK.
New research shows that Morocco is a great place to go for a budget holiday this
summer.
Thomas Cook's Cost of Living 2010 survey has found the North African country offers travellers cheaper daily costs than any other short or medium-distance destination as it requires a spend of £29.42 per person every day.
This figure represents a drop of £6.75 on the daily cost of staying in Morocco in 2009 and is also around £20 less per day than the average tourist visiting Britain will outlay. The country's African neighbour Egypt was the second cheapest short- or medium-haul country to visit, with holidaymakers' average expenditure there being £30.45.
While the nation is a cost-effective country as a whole, a spokesperson for Travelzest's Best of Morocco insisted that the city of Marrakech offers the ideal balance by being low on cost but high on culture, as well as having the bonus of an easily-accessible location.
"The cost of living is very affordable in Marrakech," said the official.
"Taxis cost just a few pounds to cross the city and attractions like the Saadian Tombs and Majorelle Gardens are low-cost."
It is also well-placed to visit other Moroccan destinations, such as Fes, Tangier and Essaouria, all of which are easy to reach via scenic car or train journeys.
On top of this, Marrakech is home to some of Morocco's best and most famous bazaars and souks, where tourists can haggle and barter with local traders to pick up some real bargains.
