Met Office officials have warned that the potential for travel chaos is high, particularly for those looking to head out on Saturday December 18th.
Chief forecaster Martin Young said: "We are continuing to keep a close eye on how the forecast develops over the next day or so," adding that commuters should stay abreast of developments via the internet and on television with a view to changing their plans should the conditions get worse as time goes on.
Holiday insurance customers in Wales and south-west England are most likely to experience disruption thanks to the snow, according to the organisation, but the front will continue into eastern areas throughout the rest of Saturday.
Those looking to travel by train today (December 16th) might find winter weather conditions are already causing commuter misery and further chaos in Scotland.
National Rail reports poor weather has caused delays on the Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street services to Inverness and buses have replaced services between Inverness, Wick and Thurso.
Passengers on the Motherwell to Cumbernauld line have been subject to disruption since the last bout of snowfall and trains are still not running to Coatbridge Central, so individuals should travel from Coatbridge Sunnyside instead.

Highways Agency has issued a further warning for drivers to take care as a noticeable drop in temperature is expected to hit the UK today (December 16th), which could cause rain to freeze on roads and pavements.
