Monty Don: South Africa is breathtaking

South Africa is being promoted by British celebrities

South Africa is an interesting country for people of all tastes and can be a pleasant surprise.

South Africa could provide travel insurance policyholders and others with a "breathtaking" experience, it is claimed.

Horticultural expert and TV personality Monty Don has joined forces with Jamie Theakston and other celebrities to act as brand ambassadors for the country's latest marketing campaign.

And he assures tourists they will be pleasantly surprised by the destination, stating: "Seeing is not the same as being there."

Some of the most beautiful plants in the world originate there, which will be of interest to other gardeners, but there are plenty of other sights to explore.

TV and radio presenter Jamie Theakston reveals he has never visited South Africa before and has dreamt about an experience there.

Images of the nation during last year's World Cup were "fascinating" and Theakston says he is "very much looking forward" to his trip there in September.

He plans to have a real adventure, taking on challenges such as diving with sharks and bungee jumping in the Durban football stadium on a "thrill-seeking" week.

Don continues: "What I love about South Africa is the enthusiasm and the energy and you take it as you find it.

"If you want the reward, you have to make it and you've got to do it."

My Mission South Africa is the title of the nationwide campaign spearheaded by four UK celebrities - Theakston, Don, Gloria Hunniford and Chris Packham.

Each will focus on their own area of interest and the scheme is designed to encourage people to visit the country on their next holiday.
