Missing out on Niagara Falls would be "unthinkable"
Niagara Falls is a "humbling and awesome sight" and to not see it would be "unthinkable" on a trip to the region, a travel writer has said.
John Mcentee, described the sight as "an astonishing, rushing carpet of marine green water stretching wider than a football stadium and hurtling over rocks and boulders", in the Daily Mail.
Visiting out of main tourist season "added to the excitement" he said as he visited the tunnels, observation decks and walkways behind the falls.
Niagara-on-the-Lake, less than ten miles from the Canadian side of the falls, is a "picture-postcard" town with a "delightful" high street with restaurants, Mr Mcentee wrote.
Visitors to the falls can take a boat ride on the Maid of the Mist which passes by the foot of the 13-story Horseshoe Falls for a wet experience.
The Niagara region has a programme of grape and wine festivals throughout the year which take place in January, June and September.
