Millions head abroad for Easter holidays
The global credit crisis has failed to put a dent in the desire of British people to go abroad during the Easter holidays, new figures have suggested.
According to the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta), two million people are travelling to foreign climes for a bank holiday break, a 20 per cent increase on this time last year.
The organisation claimed there was a late surge in holiday bookings, but suggested this had not been unanticipated.
Mark Tanzer, Abta's chief executive, remarked: "We knew consumers would have a tendency to book late this year with many people worried about their financial situation and not wanting to commit too far out."
The news came as Saga Travel Insurance revealed that an increasing number of over 50s are electing to go on multiple foreign holidays every year.
It launched a new travel calculator this week, which assesses people's preferences and determines the ideal length of their holidays.
