May is 'the perfect month for travel bargains in the Med'
Still early in the summer holiday season, May is an "excellent month for bargain hunting in the Mediterranean", a travel writer has said.
Unpredictable weather across Europe this early in the year means that there are some good deals to be had - and some destinations offer a more certain chance of sun - said Sophie Butler in the Telegraph.
Ms Butler recommended five destinations where travel insurance customers are more likely to find warmer climes.
Crete and the Algarve can both reach temperatures above 21 degrees Celcius with barely any rain and great beaches, she recommends.
Offering potentially the warmest weather, the ancient sites of Cyprus will benefit from between ten and 11 hours of sunshine per day and temperatures could reach 27 degrees Celcius.
Inland Spain in the Andalusia region will also offer higher temperatures and is perfect for touring around the Seville and Granada areas, she advised.
Sicily also made the recommended list and it offers travellers classical sites such as Selinunte, Segesta and Agrigento.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office recommends considering multi-trip travel insurance if holidaymakers are thinking about taking more than one trip per year.
It also reminds travel insurance customers that the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is not valid in northern Cyprus.
