An expert has said that Madrid is the ideal destination for food lovers.
Madrid has long been a favoured destination for people seeking the opportunity for a weekend break in one of Europe's most vibrant and fashionable cities, an expert has said.
The Spanish capital has previously been best-known for its cultural delights, shopping districts and football-mad culture due to the intense rivalry between the city's two major clubs, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
However, Ben Curtis, editor of Notes from Spain, has stated that the buzzing metropolis should now also be renowned for its gastronomic offerings, as food from throughout the vastly diverse European nation is available there.
"The great thing about Madrid is that you can get food from every other region in Spain," commented the expert.
Official figures released by the city's tourism body last week (June 23rd) show that Madrid's popularity amongst holidaymakers has soared to unprecedented levels in recent times, with the central region welcoming an all-time high of 732,709 visitors throughout last month.
During April and May, Madrid experienced a year-on-year rise in tourism of 11 and 12.6 per cent respectively as its draw continued to attract people there. With budget flights widely available to the city, it is easily and cheaply accessible to British holidaymakers.
These figures are in no small part down to the growing popularity of Spanish cuisine, with the recent Taste of Spain food festival in London proving highly popular with people in Britain.
Mr Curtis recommended that visitors to the city should try out its trademark regional dish of Cocido as well as its famous seafood.
