Take a trip to Central America for Valentine's Day.
With the end of the year drawing ever nearer, people who are looking to dash abroad for a quick break for Valentine's Day may be looking to book now. According to one expert, one of the most romantic venues to give a loved one a trip to remember is in the unlikely setting of Mexico.
While it may not be the first venue that pops into people's heads when they think about romantic breaks, Mexico Tourism Board's romance director Carmen Laborin says that the country has many ways to show someone that you love them.
She says that the country offers travel insurance customers festivals all year long, such as February's popular Sombrero Festival in Matamoros, with activities such as competitions and markets, meaning that they can enjoy such activities as well as dancing under the stars with their partner, or on the beach. Classes are offered in many destinations in styles such as salsa, tango, cumbia and danzon.
Lovers need not wait for Valentine's Day for a trip to Mexico however, and Ms Laborin said that it is becoming an increasingly popular place for honeymooning couples.
"Depending on how you're looking to spend your time honeymooning in Mexico, there are many recommendations I can make. If you're looking for sun and beach, think the Riviera Maya, [which is like] paradise - bonding with nature, white powder beaches and turquoise colored waters."
However, those who are not looking to soak up that loving feeling may look to the culture of Mexico for a trip, taking in some breathtaking architecture, as well as the many sites of historical interest.
"If you're looking for culture, think Mexico City, rich in history, dynamic and centrally located," said Ms Laborin.
