There are many reasons why London is a top holiday destination, an expert has said.
London has numerous attractions for any holidaymaker, according to one expert.
Mary Rance, chief executive of tourism organisation UKinbound, said she agreed with Lonely Planet's assessment of the capital as one of the world's best value destinations and claimed that it stands out because of its "world-class" offerings.
It is "full of cultural, sporting, historical and family-orientated activities that you simply cannot experience anywhere else in the world", she remarked.
Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2010 guidebook ranks London alongside destinations such as Iceland, Thailand, South Africa, Malaysia and Mexico when it comes to offering visitors value for money.
"The fact that London is so diverse means it has something for everyone," Ms Rance commented.
Despite London's ranking as one of Lonely Planet's top value destinations, Virgin Money recently placed the city ninth in its table of the costliest major city break locations in the world based on expenses such as hotels and
travel insurance.
New York, Milan and Moscow were named the top three most expensive destinations for those heading on a short weekend break abroad.
