A tourism official has said the Portuguese capital is an ideal destination for a cheap city break.
Lisbon is an ideal choice for anyone looking to go away this
summer, as it offers attractions and accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets.
That is the view of Paula Oliveira, director of the Lisbon Tourism Office, who stated that the Portuguese capital is one of Europe's must-see city break destinations thanks to its wide range of cultural hotspots that are available at low prices.
Cost-effective breaks could be high on the agenda of many holidaymakers in 2010 - as according to a recent survey by Elizabeth Finn Care which was commissioned by YouGov - some 38 per cent of parents believe that they will end up in debt by the time the school holidays finish in September.
Meanwhile, almost one third - 31 per cent - indicated that they will not be able to go on a family holiday this year due to financial constraints, but some may be tempted by the prospect of a cheap getaway in the sun.
And in TripAdvisor's third annual European Cities Survey - which was published earlier this week (July 12th) - Lisbon held off competition from the likes of Prague and Istanbul to be named as the best value city to visit in Europe.
Ms Oliveira stated that it is easy for holidaymakers to get the best out of Lisbon regardless of their budget, as it has a wide range of places to stay "ranging from five-star luxury hotels, to bed and breakfast and hostel accommodation".
Anyone thinking of heading to Lisbon in the near future may like to take out
travel insurance prior to leaving the UK.
