Although casinos are clearly plentiful, there is still much more to keep visitors entertained in Las Vegas.
Although the image of neon lights and high-rolling gamblers at casinos is still rife in many people's minds, Las Vegas has plenty more to offer its visitors, according to one expert.
Cathy Till, senior vice-president of marketing at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, said the gambling persona is "outdated" and does not fully represent what the city holds.
"There is more variety in Las Vegas than there is in any other city. There's so much that people can do," she pointed out, adding that shopping, eating at restaurants and indulging in spa treatments are often high on the agenda of tourists arriving in the area.
One must-see is the Bellagio Fountains' water shows, which Ms Till claims is "amazing" and second to none other in the world. What's more, the exhibit is free as tourists simply gather on the pavement outside the resort to view the spectacle - but it still takes some people by surprise and begins when they least expect it.
And there is no need to take the official's word for Las Vegas's credentials, as hotels are said to make 60 per cent of their revenue from sources other than their associated casinos.
However, travel insurance customers could be best advised to book flights sooner rather than later, as figures from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority at the World Travel Market recently revealed a rise of 39 per cent in the number of passengers between the UK and the US city between January and September this year - overall, the number has increased by 33.8 per cent since October 2009.
