Kenya safari named as 'tour of a lifetime'
People planning to buy travel insurance this winter and head off on holiday could decide to take a trip on a Kenyan safari after one provider's tours were named among the best in the world.
The Sustainable Kenya Safari, undertaken by Big Five Tours and Expeditions, has been named as one of National Geographic Traveler magazine's 'tours of a lifetime'.
The publication has recognised the company for its unique experience and the fact that it places a high focus on the importance of sustainability, ensuring that the region benefits and thrives from the tours rather than being put at risk by them.
"Every year, the editorial team combs the world to find the most authentic, most innovative, most immersive, best-guided and most sustainable tours," said senior editor Norie Quintos.
Explaining the decision to include the Sustainable Kenya Safari in the 2009 edition, she added: "This year, we wanted to make sure that the trips we picked were also a great value, given the economic climate."
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office strongly advises people planning a holiday to Kenya to take out comprehensive travel insurance before making the trip.
The government department warns that medical facilities outside Kenya's major cities can be severely limited and advises that any travel insurance should cover holidaymakers for medical repatriation.
