Italian hotels 'are offering special offers to attract UK travellers'
Italian hoteliers are offering British travel insurance customers an incentive to head abroad and are cutting prices over the summer months, a travel portal has said.
"They are realising that in order to get people to come to Italy from other countries, they are going to have to adjust their prices," explained Sian Williams, country manager UK for trivago.
She went on to say a large number of Brits were considering staying at home for their holiday in 2009 and European destinations would have to have more special offers to get people to go abroad.
According to figures from the company, cities in Italy such as Turin, Naples and Bologna have become more "favourable" to travellers at an average cost of £102, £86 and £100 respectively for a standard double room per night this month (May 2009).
The figures revealed London hotel prices have increased in May to £130 - up from £120 in April for a standard double room.
Hotels.com stated many traditional holiday destinations in the eurozone will offer British travellers a "significantly" cheaper overnight rate than hotels in the UK.
