Isle of Wight has 'something for everyone' this May

Families are being urged to head to the Isle of Wight over the May bank holidays with many events to entertain adults and children alike, the tourism board has said.

The grown-ups might want to head to the Real Ale festival, which will take place at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway between May 2nd and 4th - with the opportunity to taste the best the island's breweries have to offer.

Later in the month on May 27th, the Blackgang Pirates' firework party night kicks off, with lots of events for kids to get involved in. Sword fighting workshops, a family treasure hunt and Jolly Roger dance party and BBQ will all set the scene for the firework and music display to end the evening.

More active visitors may wish to climb an ancient oak tree and relax in a hammock overlooking the yachts bobbing on the Solent. Twilight Tree Climbs will run twice a week from May 25th and tree climbing experts with harnesses will be on hand to help.

The Isle of Wight has 13 award-winning beaches of which three have been granted blue flag status.

Even if you’re travelling within the UK, holiday insurance from Direct Travel Insurance is still a sensible purchase as the expense of dealing with issues on a holiday can be costly in any country.
