Iran "has a huge amount to offer the traveller"
Iran in the Middle East has been described as a "top tourist spot" with kind and hospitable people, a flight comparison site has said.
Travel insurance customers who wish to "experience somewhere exotic, very rich in history and culture, with a vast range of things to see and activities to do - plus very friendly people", should head to Iran, advised SkyScanner.com.
Recommended sights include the bazaar and tree-lined boulevards of the former capital city Isfahan, the historic city of Tehran - the country's capital city - and the beaches on the Persian Gulf coast and bordering the Caspian Sea.
The website describes food in Iran as "superb" and "diverse", made with fresh produce that is gentle on the waistline.
All travel within 100 kilometres of the Afghanistan border, however, is strongly discouraged by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office - which also advises holidaymakers should secure their visa before booking any travel plans.
Comprehensive medical and travel insurance is highly recommended.
