India offers a wide range of attractions for travellers

India could be the ideal location for a longer break this summer, a travel agency has said.

India is becoming more and more popular with holidaymakers and backpackers as Brits begin to recognise the outstanding value-for-money the Asian country offers visitors.

The nation offers an attractive mixture of history, cultural and social diversity, cheap prices and hot weather that has begun to tempt increasing numbers of holidaymakers to visit it.

World-famous attractions such as the breathtaking Taj Mahal remain the country's tourism hotspots, but less well-known locations such as Rajasthan's sand dunes and the stunning beaches found on India's southern coast are also now proving popular.

The hustle and bustle of major cities such as Mumbai and the capital New Delhi also provide unforgettable cultural experiences, while the majestic Himalayan mountain range in the north of the country offers unrivalled natural beauty, according to eindiatrips.com.

India is so large that longer-term visits are advisable to see everything there, which is why, along with the fact that it can be covered on a shoestring budget thanks to its low cost of living, it is now extremely popular for backpacking holidaymakers.

A visit to the Taj Mahal in the northern city of Agra is essential for anyone travelling to India. As one of the world's most renowned and popular tourist destinations, the awe-inspiring palace is an absolute must-see attraction.

Meanwhile, the 15-day tiger tour, which takes in locations such as Delhi, Khajuraho, Kanha and Jaipur, offers a whistle-stop visit to many of the country's premier attractions, including the Banahaygarh National Park which is home to many endangered species such as leopards and wild boar.

Anyone visiting India this year should consider taking out travel insurance before leaving the UK.

Holiday Insurance from Direct Travel Insurance can cover a trip to «country» or other long-haul destinations all for a low price.
