Iceland 'now a better value destination for travellers'
Travel insurance customers may wish to consider a holiday to Iceland as the effects of the recession have made it a better-value destination, according to a report.
A spokesperson for The Travel Association (ABTA) said the financial difficulties experienced by Iceland due to the global economic crisis may have "helped to improve it as a tourist destination".
"It was seen to be a very expensive destination and it certainly has turned that around," she added.
According to the ABTA representative, prices "certainly have become cheaper" when it came to the cost of living and drinking as well as other similar areas.
Similar effects due to financial difficulties have been experienced in other countries in the past such as Argentina, Cambodia and Thailand, she added.
Figures from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office indicate some 70,000 people from the UK visit Iceland every year and it recommends visitors ensure they take out a comprehensive travel insurance policy that covers any adventure activities they wish to take part in.
