An industry expert has said that the Spanish island of Ibiza is a great holiday destination for everyone.
Ibiza has a well-earned reputation as the party capital of Europe, with its vibrant and colourful nightclubbing scene that attracts people to the Spanish island from all over the world.
However, the common idea that the destination is a no-go zone for holidaymakers seeking a quiet, idyllic and cultured Mediterranean break has become outdated, an industry expert has said.
According to Carmen Hernandez Gomez, market analyst at the Spanish Tourism Office, Ibiza is an ideal resort that offers much more than bars and clubs.
"People who visit definitely change their perception - we are working on the others," she said.
And it appears that Ms Hernandez Gomez's opinion may be shared by Brits looking to holiday abroad in 2010, as figures published by ACI Europe last week show that Ibiza has one of the few airports across the continent that experienced an upturn in passenger traffic over the last year.
Between April 2009 and the same month this year, ACI statistics suggest that overall traffic in Europe decreased by 13.5 per cent, but Ibiza bucked this common trend by recording an increase in visitor numbers of 8.2 per cent.
The official advised that essential things to do for travellers during their stay on the island include sampling the picturesque Ibizan sunset, enjoying the local cuisine, taking in some of its peaceful walking trails and also buying some of the region's typical clothing.
"It is a destination that will surprise everyone - it surprised me - as it is not what you expect at all," she added.
