Hotels 'cut prices for holidaymakers in the recession'
Travel insurance customers may be able to find themselves a great deal on a holiday this summer as hotels cut prices in response to the global downturn, an accommodation provider has said.
Nigel Pocklington, managing director for Hotels.com, explained that hotel prices had come down as much as 12 per cent year-on-year for UK hotels - one of the fastest declines the industry has seen in the European markets.
"All of a sudden the UK is a destination that is very attractive from a price point of view," he continued.
Mr Pocklington went on to say that some UK hotels were even offering special discounts to British holidaymakers.
A report published in May from Holiday-Rentals.co.uk found that UK travellers were cutting back on their accommodation spend in 2009 by £63 to an estimated £461 each.
Holidaymakers who purchase their travel insurance through a travel agent could be paying as much as 500 per cent more than if bought through a travel insurance provider, research from Confused.com revealed in May.
