Hostels now a "trendier" option for travel insurance customers
Hostels have undergone a "big development" are now being considered as a serious alternative to staying in a hotel, a youth hostel association has reported.
Johan Kruger, head of PR and communications at Hostelling International, said: "Hostels have changed and become trendier in a way - their service level has increased."
He went on to say that there were many benefits to staying in a hostel for travel insurance customers of all ages, including keeping costs down by benefitting from the self-catering facilities and the social aspect of meeting new people.
Mr Kruger said hostels were no longer only attractive to large groups, younger people and backpackers as they were now appealing to tourists such as families with young children.
According to the NHS, holidaymakers travelling to Europe should make sure they take both their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and a valid European travel insurance policy as the EHIC will not cover tourists for any private healthcare or lost or stolen property.
Cheap holiday insurance from Direct Travel Insurance could be one way to keep total holiday expenditure down.
