Holidays in the UK 'wonderful' and 'on your doorstep'
Holidaying in the UK is a "wonderful, on your doorstep product" that will outlive the credit crunch, the British Resorts and Destinations Association has said.
"It's so flexible," explained association director Peter Hampson, who added that there was a diverse variety of destinations that can be reached quickly by travellers.
Mr Hampson said: "[They] believe when people start to come and discover the domestic product that they are likely to think, 'actually, this is better'."
This Easter, the same number of Brits chose to holiday in the UK as last year, according to research by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
However, more people chose to stay in caravans and holiday parks this year and the popularity of hotels fell from 35 per cent in 2008 to 31 per cent in 2009.
A VisitBritain survey in December revealed holidays were the last thing people were willing to give up if money was tight, as they are a valued means of relieving stress.
Even if you’re travelling within the UK, holiday insurance from Direct Travel Insurance is still a sensible purchase as the expense of dealing with issues on a holiday can be costly in any country.
