Holidays in Florida 'still affordable'
Florida holidays are still affordable for British travellers, despite the strength of the pound.
This is the claim of a new article in the Independent, which stated that struggling hotels and theme parks have launched a host of special offers in order to stimulate demand during the recession.
It suggested that some of the offers are so good that this year "may be the ideal time" to visit the Sunshine State.
Money can be saved by travelling in May as opposed to August and large families can reduce costs by staying in self-catered accommodation, the publication said.
In addition, staying clear of hotels associated with Orlando's theme parks could also be a smart move for those on budgets.
One area where holidaymakers should not seek to cut costs is travel insurance, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office suggests.
It claims that an emergency in a foreign country "can be extremely expensive" for those not insured properly, with an air ambulance from the east coast of the US costing up to £45,000.
Direct Travel Insurance offers cheap travel insurance that can cover holidaymakers for a trip to the US and other tourist destinations.
