Holidays at home 'can give travellers the experiences they want'
Travellers want more life experience out of their holidays, despite an increase in the number of people choosing to take a break at home this year, research has revealed.
According to statistics from YouGov, some 82 per cent of people aged 18 to 24 said they would like to fulfil a lifetime ambition during their holiday and some 73 per cent of Londoners said they wanted to learn a new skill while on a break.
"There's no doubt experiential holidaying is on the increase," said travel expert, Simon Calder.
"Holidaying at home offers a great deal for today's holidaymaker and
provides affordable and accessible options for those seeking a more fulfilling experience," he continued.
According to VisitScotland, 82 per cent of the people surveyed said they would be likely to take part in one of their experience days such as a one-to-one tour with a gallery curator, a cooking master-class or a whisky tasting session with an expert.
Some 48 per cent of British people said they would head anywhere with good weather for their spring travels in 2009, reported Holiday Extras in April.
Even if you’re travelling within the UK, holiday insurance from Direct Travel Insurance is still a sensible purchase as the expense of dealing with issues on a holiday can be costly in any country.
