Holidaymakers 'should consider different travel insurance options'
Travel insurance customers should look at which policy will serve them and their travel plans best this year, a financial data provider has suggested.
Brian Brown, head of insight and author of the latest report on travel insurance from Defaqto, said: "This year customers are more likely to take holidays at home rather than abroad. The number of overseas trips is showing a decline for the first time in two decades."
Mr Brown went on to say that people may be limiting themselves to fewer foreign holidays due to greater financial pressures and may supplement their time spent away with more UK breaks.
He suggested that 2009 could become the "year of the Staycation" and therefore people should consider whether a single trip travel insurance policy or an annual trip travel insurance policy will be most cost-effective to their plans.
According to figures from On the Beach, late bookings for summer 2009 have "surged", up 18 per cent compared to last year.
