British holidaymakers are no longer willing to spend their break doing nothing but lie on a beach.
British tourists are increasingly looking to take part in adventurous activities while away on holiday, it has been suggested.
Although in years gone by they may have been happy to have laid on a beach to do nothing but relax, Lynsey Devon, activity sector PR manager for TUI Travel's adventure division, claims holidaymakers are "now far more interested in trying something out".
Indeed, she states that the popularity of taking part in activities such as skiing, sailing and trekking has increased in recent years as people "feel a lot more confident trying new things".
But this is not confined to one particular demographic, as Ms Devon points out that those in their 30s and 40s, families and "silver surfers" are looking to try their hand at such activities.
However, those wanting to part in adventurous pursuits such as sailing or hiking while abroad may first want to ensure they have
travel insurance in place before leaving the UK.
One activity holidaymakers in the south of France may wish to attempt is surfing, as Guardian writer Beverley Fearis recently claimed that the city of Bearritz offers a number of classes in the board sport and boasts excellent waves all year-round.
