Holidaymakers can save 'with the right cards'

Holidaymakers can cut down on travel expenses by making sure they use the right debit, credit or prepaid cards when making purchases abroad, it has been claimed.

Price comparison website moneysupermarket.com warned that consumers can run afoul of expensive transaction charges or foreign exchange rates if they do not take care to choose the best plastic methods of payment.

Peter Harrison, spokesperson for the company, stated that some credit cards charge up to three per cent for purchases made abroad, but free options are available.

He suggested that using the wrong payment methods could have an even bigger impact on the cost of a holiday than the strength of the pound.

"While the weakness of the pound is of concern to holidaymakers, using the wrong foreign exchange product can be even more costly," he remarked.

Last week, RIAS warned that holidaymakers should not just purchase travel insurance policies based on price and should instead consider exactly what it is that they need from their cover.ADNFCR-2301-ID-19109988-ADNFCR
