Holidaying in the UK 'is here to stay'
The staycation is here to stay and is not merely a passing trend, according to holiday home marketplace Domingos.co.uk.
"If you stay within the UK, you are going to save on transportation costs [as] you don't have to fly anywhere," explained Dennis Klett, co-founder and director of the company.
Mr Klett went on to say that people would continue to look to save money and holidaying in the UK would continue to see an increase in popularity.
Over the past six months, the company reported an increase of 21 per cent in the number of people enquiring about holiday home rentals in the UK rather than abroad.
Figures published in June by Travelodge revealed 32 per cent of people in the UK were planning on holidaying in Britain in 2009.
The proportion of people taking a foreign break has fallen to 27 per cent this year, compared to 33 per cent in 2008.
Even if you’re travelling within the UK, holiday insurance from Direct Travel Insurance is still a sensible purchase as the expense of dealing with issues on a holiday can be costly in any country.
