Holiday rentals 'proving popular with travellers'
Holiday home rentals in "enduringly popular" destinations in Europe are proving a hit travel insurance customers, a holiday company has said.
"Places like Nice, Cannes, the Canary Islands and Costa del Sol are the most popular destinations enquired about by travellers," said Courtney Wylie, managing director for Holiday-Rentals.co.uk.
"Some of the popular [European] destinations are still quite strong," she added.
According to a study by On the Beach released this month (May), the Costa Brava and the Costa Dorado saw a rise of 22 per cent year-on year in late bookings during the first two weeks of the month.
It was also reported there had been a "surge" in late bookings for holidays to Greece and the Greek Islands, with bookings rising by 18 per cent compared to 2008.
The holiday company claimed the destination's popularity had been encouraged by hotels and airlines cutting prices to tempt British travellers.
