Holiday like an astronaut on a break in Iceland this summer

If lying on a beach for a week does not seem like the perfect way to spend the summer holidays then Iceland could have an adventure holiday tour that could appeal to those still looking to take out European holiday insurance.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the first landing on the moon, travellers are being offered the opportunity to take part in a holiday tour to visit some "lunar" landscapes - whilst keeping their feet firmly on the ground.

Vatnajokull National Park - Europe's largest area of protected wilderness - is home to the once training ground of the Nasa astronauts before they embarked on their mission to land on the moon in July 1969.

The new tour takes holidaymakers to natural landmarks such as volcanoes, glaciers, canyons and craters as well as the deepest lake in Iceland.

Dettifoss, said to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe, is also located in the park, where the water cascades from a 45-metre drop, 100 metres wide.
