Holiday insurance 'offers more than just financial protection'
People can loose out more than just financially by not taking out a travel insurance policy, the Post Office has said.
Research carried out by the company showed that 23 per cent of holidaymakers were not covering themselves with a travel insurance policy as it is seen as a simple way to cut back on the cost of a trip.
"When you are on holiday the last thing you want to be worrying about is not being covered in the event of something going wrong," explained Rachel Croft, head of travel insurance at the company.
She advised that everyone planning a trip to take out holiday insurance "for peace of mind and for financial security".
Ms Croft added that some three million bags were lost last year within the European Union (EU) and one-third of these are estimated to have never been returned to their owners.
On average, the company found that travellers take £1,000 worth of items with them on holiday.
The European Commission reported that one piece off luggage was lost for every 64 passengers in the EU last year.
