Holiday agents 'breach travel insurance rules'
One in four travel agents fall foul of Financial Services Authority (FSA) regulations when it comes to offering holiday insurance.
This is the finding of new research by World First Travel Insurance (WFTI), which stated that about 25 per cent of companies selling holidays are in breach of new insurance regulations brought in at the start of this year.
Among the most commonly flouted rules is the one prohibiting unregulated travel firms from recommending specific travel insurance providers.
In addition, some appointed representatives are failing to make customers aware of which firms they are acting on behalf of.
"It has been three months since the new regulations came into place and still over a quarter of businesses are falling foul of them," commented WFTI's Martin Rothwell.
The FSA website offers advice to consumers looking to purchase travel insurance before heading abroad.
One of its top five tips is for people not to feel pressured into buying products from travel agents, as more suitable policies may be available elsewhere.
