Food lovers might want to travel to Lisbon this spring and summer, according to one expert.
Britons looking to combine gastronomy with a sunshine break might want to head to Lisbon.
According to Food and Travel magazine editor Charlotte Swift, there is much for food lovers to enjoy in the Portuguese capital this spring and
summer.
Those considering buying flights and
travel insurance for a trip to the city will be able to check out the Peixe em Lisboa - Lisbon Fish and Flavours - festival later this month.
As Ms Swift notes, Portuguese food is heavily influenced by the waters that surround the country.
"You're likely to find Portugal's best fresh seafood in Lisbon," she comments.
"Bacalhau (dried salt cod) is a staple of the country's diet and you are sure to find it in many guises on restaurant menus."
Other culinary highlights of a holiday in Lisbon include the weekday fish market on the Rua de Sao Pedro, Ms Swift adds.
The city is home to numerous restaurants ranging from modern, sophisticated establishments to more traditional taverns.
Visitors may want to find cafes that serve local pastries, such as the pasteis de Belem custard tarts that the area is famous for.
