The Portuguese city of Guimaraes is an excellent place to visit on holiday, according to Turismo de Lisboa.
Travel insurance customers may wish to consider the Portuguese city of Guimaraes as a holiday destination next year, after local tourism experts highlighted its rich cultural heritage.
Isabel Salgueiro, a spokesperson for Turismo de Lisboa and an account executive at Hills Balfour, said the location is "one of the most historic places in Portugal".
Guimaraes, along with Slovenia's Maribor, will be the European Capital of Culture next year, with a number of efforts being made to emphasise its art scene.
"They're creating a museum of art and architecture in Guimaraes to promote [local] architecture and they're increasing their activities now for 2012," she explained.
According to Ms Salgueiro, the aim is to make everyone in the community part of the drive and ensure all residents are a "representative of culture" for the country.
However, Guimaraes is not the only Portuguese city Turismo de Lisboa recommended for holidaymakers heading to the region.
Visitors bureau brand manager at the organisation Miguel Gonzago also suggested Lisbon as an excellent place to spend some time, particularly for those who want a luxurious experience.
He noted that the capital's range of boutique hotels is "very nice", with many located centrally within the city.
Mr Gonzago added that there is "very good public transportation, very rich gastronomy and a unique atmosphere, all for a very reasonable price".
The expert recently praised Lisbon's weather conditions, stating that winter temperatures rarely average lower than 12 degrees and can sometimes reach anything up to 25 degrees - which is fairly uncommon in most destinations.
