So-called grown-up gap year holidays are often planned in the same spirit of adventure normally associated with traditional gap year breaks, a marketing manager has commented.
Gap year holidays tailored to grown-ups have been described as equally adventurous to those taken by younger holidaymakers, according to a marketing manager.
Lauren Mackay of Real Gap commented that many recently-retired people have been inspired by their children's gap years and are now keen to have similar travel experiences.
She commented that volunteer trips are a popular choice among this demographic, adding that many are using their life skills to give back while on holiday.
As people tend to be fitter, more active and healthier later in life these days, Ms Mackay noted that they have also not lost a youthful spirit of adventure.
"They want to see parts of the world that once upon a time were 'off the beaten track' and not as easily or safely traversed," she commented.
Mature British travellers are shopping around for
travel insurance online before they buy, according to research carried out by Age Concern.
The poll also indicated that many older people are keen to purchase annual policies if they are planning multiple holidays within the same year.
