Greece is currently facing strike action due to government moves to aid the economy.
Travel insurance may be a priority for those heading on holiday to Greece in light of the current economic situation, which has resulted in strike action.
The
Foreign and Commonwealth Office announced there will be a trade union demonstration at 19:00 local time in Syntagma Square in Athens.
British nationals are advised to avoid the area and are also warned there will be industrial action taken by dock workers on June 24th, which means all port services will probably be disrupted.
Power cuts could also be a problem, as the country's state-owned electric company Public Power Corp began a series of outages yesterday (June 20th) in protest to government proposals to privatise the utility.
Greece has been facing financial difficulties for some time and there are suggestions that it may well call for a bail-out from Europe.
Travel expert Simon Calder issued some advice in the London Evening Standard for those visiting the popular tourist destination over the coming weeks and months.
He wrote: "A minority of visitors ... have been mightily messed around by the strikes that have disrupted transport, especially in Athens.
"That's why I caution against booking independently to Greece."
Those who organise their holidays this way might find a strike causes problems with their flight, which could leave them grounded in the UK.
While the airline might be able to reorganise this journey, the accommodation provider is not obliged to issue a refund if this part of the trip has been booked separately, Mr Calder warned.
Package holidays should offer greater peace of mind in such circumstances, as the risk is then held by the tour operator for coordinating both flights and beds.
