Those visiting Greece this week may find their travel arrangements are affected by strikes.
Tourists in Greece this week are likely to find their transport arrangements affected as workers take part in a general strike.
The
Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) warns the event is set to occur on May 11th for 24 hours, with both public and private sector trade unions taking part.
It is likely there will be possible delays and cancellations to air travel, while passengers are advised to contact the airline they are flying with to find out more information.
"Other transport services throughout Greece may also be disrupted," the FCO notes.
Visitors to the country are advised to take out comprehensive medical and travel insurance prior to their trip, according to the body.
It also advises against hiring motorcycles, mopeds, scooters or quad bikes, as they are commonly involved in accidents that can result in serious injury.
Travel insurance policyholders should check that they are covered for a relevant activity if they do chose to head out on the roads and the FCO warns those who do not wear a crash helmet could find this invalidates their policy in the event of an accident.
A valid European Health Insurance Card should be obtained before British tourists leave the UK and taken on the holiday.
However, the FCO states this is not a substitute for medical and travel insurance, but instead entitled carriers to emergency medical treatment "on the same terms as Greek nationals".
This will not, however, provide cover for medical repatriation, treatment of a non-urgent nature or ongoing medical assistance, the body adds.
