An expert has said Greece's financial problems could mean holidaymakers can get themselves a cheap deal to visit the country this summer.
Holidays in Greece could be cheaper this
summer due to the country's ongoing financial woes, an expert has said.
According to Nadine Hallak, of cheapflights.co.uk, Greece could follow in the footsteps of Iceland in 2008, when the island went bankrupt but consequently attracted many more British holidaymakers because of the attraction of cheap deals to go there.
A traditional
summer hotspot for Brits, Greece offers the perfect getaway mixture of warm weather, stunning scenery, great nightlife and picturesque beaches. Ms Halak believes that the crisis-hit destination could provide tourists with an ideal cheap break in the sun this
summer.
"Greece will likely do what other economically hard-hit countries have done in the past and leverage the travel industry to stimulate the economy," she said.
A report on Greek TV channel Antenna broadcast earlier this week stated that even though package holidays there had fallen by around ten per cent in price, some 1.5 million less people will visit the mainland or its many islands in 2010.
If you are thinking of grabbing a cheap deal to visit Greece this year, it is advisable to take out
travel insurance before leaving home.
