Goodwood, Winchester 'top South Downs locations'
Goodwood Racecourse and the town of Winchester have been named as two of the best places to visit in the UK's latest national park, the South Downs, cheap travel insurance buyers may be interested to hear.
Annabelle Thorpe, a local from Sussex, wrote for the Guardian that Goodwood - to the north of the Downs - offers some of the UK's best flat racing, while western Winchester boasts "a pleasant mix of history, shopping and a few good spots for a long, lazy lunch".
Ms Thorpe drew up a list of places worth going to in the area following yesterday's (March 31st) announcement that the South Downs had attained national park status.
Other locations mentioned include the South Downs Way, West Stoke House, Parham House, Chanctonbury Ring and Breaky Bottom Vineyard.
Seven Sisters Country Park, Blackberry Wood Campsite and the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust also received the writer's seal of approval.
Poul Christensen, acting chair of Natural England, stated yesterday that the South Downs becoming a national park "secures its place among England's finest landscapes".
