Holidaymakers may find plenty on offer in the Indian city of Chandigarh.
The north Indian city of Chandigarh is becoming an increasingly popular destination among holidaymakers, as more travellers are spending longer there on their stop-overs.
According to Sarina Singh, a senior author for Lonely Planet India, the lesser-known destination is a great choice for travellers "who are keen to jump off the tourist treadmill".
The city is a five-and-a-half-hour journey by bus to Delhi - three hours away via express trains or a 50-minute flight - but is a worthwhile stop in its own right, she noted.
Ms Singh said that Chandigarh particularly stands out when it comes to food.
She commented: "On the culinary front Chandigarh shines, offering everything from cheap-as-chips roadside eateries to fancy multi-cuisine restaurants."
Holidaymakers travelling to India have been advised by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to obtain comprehensive medical and
travel insurance before their journey and to ensure they keep a copy of their passport and Indian visa separate from the originals.
