'Get back on holiday bandwagon', over- 55s urged
People aged over 55 should not be put off booking a holiday this year and should look out for packages that meet their needs and interests, a charity has said.
Harold Burke, sales director at Age Concern Holidays, said: "People who often fit this bracket tend to have lost a partner or travelling companion and find it daunting to think of booking a holiday."
Mr Burke went on to say older people needed to "get back on the holiday bandwagon" and choose packages where they know they will meet like-minded travellers.
He added there were many trips designed to meet their needs such as activity holidays with dance or bowls on the itinerary or special interest tours where holidaymakers participate in gardening or walks.
Research from the charity revealed that 58 per cent of people aged over 55 said they would like to travel more this year. However, some 41 per cent said they would be missing out on a holiday this year.
