A tour operator has launched a new gourmet itinerary for Japan taking in some of the country's best foodie locations.
Japanese food has been popular among many westerners for years - and now travellers can indulge their love of cuisine even more by going on a gourmet tour of the country.
Tour operator Japan Journeys is launching the itinerary in May 2010, when holidaymakers will be able to take a cookery class, tour a sake brewery, taste the food served up at Tokyo's Michelin-starred restaurants and visit various food markets.
Visitors will also get the chance to visit the world's biggest fish market Tsukiji and see several of Japan's greatest cultural attractions over the course of the ten-day tour.
Holiday insurance may be advisable in case travellers fall ill or encounter problems such as lost luggage.
The itinerary was launched to celebrate the news that Tokyo now has the greatest number of restaurants with three Michelin stars in the world, beating Paris in the process.
According to the latest Michelin guide to Tokyo - which was launched on November 20th - the city has 261 stars overall.
