Gap year travellers visiting Africa in January should not pass up the opportunity to see one of the longest ever solar eclipses.
Africa will offer one of the best vantage points from which to see the longest solar eclipse of the third millennium.
According to Gap Adventures, those heading to the continent on a gap year might want to take advantage of this by heading to locations such as Lake Nakuru in Kenya, Mount Kilimanjaro or the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania in time for January 15th 2010.
The eclipse - which will see the moon pass between the sun and the Earth - is expected to last for up to ten minutes and will be "an unforgettable experience" for those who happen to be in Africa on this day, the company says.
Tourists could find themselves taking in the solar eclipse as flamingos flock over the shores of Lake Nakuru, while they descend Africa's highest peak or from the brim of the Ngorongoro Crater - although
gap year travel insurance may be advisable.
Another solar eclipse will occur next year on July 11th.
