The Met Office has suggested more travel chaos could be on the cards as a result of forecasted snow.
The
Met Office has suggested more snowfall and widespread ice could cause travel chaos over the next few days.
Poor conditions have been predicted for Wales and central regions of England today (Wednesday December 22nd) and some areas could see some 25 cm of the white stuff falling as the day goes on.
However, a brief respite from snow showers is expected just before Christmas Day, but travel insurance policyholders expecting to visit family over the festive period should be aware that widespread ice could still lie on roads, while untreated sections may prove particularly hazardous.
Chief forecaster for the Met Office Tim Hewson said: "An area of snow is expected to develop ... although it is uncertain exactly which areas will see the heaviest snowfalls."
The body has removed many of its severe weather warnings for the UK, but flash warnings of severe or extreme weather remain in place for some places in south-east England and the Midlands, where the aforementioned snow is expected to land.
Anyone planning to travel by road should keep an eye on the weather and allow extra time for their journey in case it is disrupted by adverse conditions.
The
Highways Agency has suggested motorists keep an emergency kit in their car including blankets, food and drink, warm clothes, a shovel, torch and de-icer in case the vehicle becomes stuck or stranded.
What's more, the organisation has reminded drivers that routes that have been treated with grit and salt can become slippery again, especially where trees overhang the road or in areas with steep gradients.
